This map was surveyed by George Hennet in 1828 and 1829 and published in 1830 by Henry Teesdale. The scale is 7½ ins to 10 miles and the map measures 45 ins by 63 ins. The map that was used to produce this CD was a folded map.  It was produced on 4 sheets these sheets were printed in black and white and then hand coloured.  The sheets were cut up to give a total of 48 sections.  These sections were  mounted on linen so that it could be folded without the map sections being folded. On the CD adjacent sections of the map have been joined together to make a more convenient shape for viewing on a computer screen.

The map was engraved by W. Woolnoth.  As a vignette, to decoration the map, he used R.T. Baron’s architectural drawing of Liverpool’s new Customs House. The Customs House was not finished and in service for some ten years after the map was published. Similarly som

e other features of the map were also anticipatory; some railways were not finished until a few years after the map was published. He even extended the Sankey Canal from Fiddler’s Ferry to Widnes although the Act authorising the extension was not passed until 1830. Having said this it is one of the most attractive maps containing a great deal of information.
