Ordnance Survey 6-inch first edition 1869 – 1875
Maps of Flintshire & Denbighshire
This DVD contains all of the first edition 6-inch maps of Flintshire & Denbighshire. Also included are the first edition 25-inch maps of the towns and larger villages.
The 6-inch maps are in two forms on the DVD. The first version presents the maps in sheet form as they were produced. This version is accessed by Adobe Acrobat via a graphical index. In the second version the maps have been stripped of their borders and joined together to form a single composite map of Flintshire & Denbighshire approximately 25ft square. You can zoom in to the smallest detail or out to see the whole county. Printing is possible from both versions.
The images were scanned from maps held at the Flintshire and Denbighshire Record Offices and the A N Palmer Centre for Local Studies and Archives, Wrexham. The maps measure 1m x 0.7m. The 6-inch maps were scanned at 300dpi in gray scale and the 25-inch maps were scanned at 150 dpi in colour.
The introduction to the CD is written by C J Williams, Consultant Archivist, Marford, Wrexham
